Cash Flow Real Estate Investing, Rants and Raves

J.O.B. Seriously?

love-job-search

Are you a sick and tired of this as I am?

It seems like every time I check my email, some idiot goo-roo is pitching his “solution” to having a job.

And of course they have all kinds of cutsey acronyms for JOB. Tell me if you’ve heard these:

– Just Over Broke
– Just Obey Boss
– Jackass Of Boss

And on and on and on.

Well you know what? Those f’ing goo-roos can go take a f’ing flying leap.

Because there’s nothing wrong with having a job.

A job lets you put food on the table.

A job lets you put gas in your car.

A job let you buy that 60 inch plasma tv in your living room.

And a job let’s you buy your son a GI Joe with a Kung Foo grip for Christmas

You know what? I’ve had a job for over 30 years. Some good. Some bad. A couple great. And a couple horrible.

And I hit my knees every day in thanks for all of the owners that took a risk and started a business and grew their business then hired me. Because business owners are rock stars.

They put it all on the line to get started. They work tirelessly to get stable. Then they work a whole hell of a lot more to grow. And most of them don’t stop until they keel over dead.

That’s the guy the idiot goo-roos are calling the “Jackass of Boss”.

Morons.

Listen. I know that you like the idea of having your own business and want one of your own.

I get that. I have one myself and I bring in a couple of hundred k every year in rent.

But my real estate business isn’t big enough yet to support my family. Do I wish it was? Absolutely.

Am I working on it? Absolutely. But I’m not there yet.

So I keep working – at my JOB. And I’m DAMN glad that I have one.

I appreciate the hell out of the fact that many years ago a guy started a business. Worked hard at it for years. And continued to grow it to the point that they hired me.

That they trusted me to work hard on their business. And to add value in an amount greater than what they were paying me. And not bellyache or complain about it.

The crazy thing is, these days we have the LUXURY of having a job – at the same time that we’re building our own businesses. It’s a really cool safety net.

So don’t ever let anyone, especially one of the butt head goo-roos tell you that having a job is a bad thing. Or make you feel guilty because you still work for someone.

Because having a JOB is not a bad thing. It’s actually my SECRET WEAPON that’s allowing me to build my business on the side.

Do you have a story about building your business while working a job? I’d like to hear about it if you do.

About Dennis Fassett

I'm pleased to report that after multiple decades of hard-headed stubbornness, I've finally figured out that all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy. So I've taken it upon myself to convert my wife and now adult(ish) kids into a roving band of merry adventurers. From horseback riding in Monument Valley to ocean kayaking in Acadia - all of our exploits have earned the coveted "epic" label from the younguns. I'll tell you about them - and also about the other "adventures" I'm having in my real estate investing business.
